Description
\nThe failed coup d\u2019\u00e9tat in Turkey can be analyzed in many ways, especially in relation to continuities and discontinuities in Turkey\u2019s 21st century politics, society and economy. Some scholars argue that the aftermath of the July coup revealed even further the authoritarian character of the Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdo\u011fan and its party, the AKP (Adalet ve Kalk\u0131nma Partisi\/Justice and Development Party), and opened the way to enhance his own powers more. Other scholars argue that Recep Tayyip Erdo\u011fan\u2019s policies signal the rebirth of the Turkish nation, or Yeni T\u00fcrkiye (New Turkey) as it is often referred to. With this conference we attempt to address the above issue and explore the extent to which the coup d\u2019\u00e9tat constitutes a turning point in modern Turkey, or it is used, to reproduce older paradigms.<\/p>\n

We invite submissions on the following, but not limited, related topics, and we encourage contributions from all related fields (history, politics, sociology, and anthropology):

\n\u2022 Turkish foreign policy (esp. in relation with the wider Middle East)
\n\u2022 Neoliberalism and state (re)-formation
\n\u2022 Refugees-Immigrants and the EU
\n\u2022 Gender<\/p>\n

There is no fee for this conference, but early registration is encouraged due to limited space.<\/p>\n
